Skaar Norway AS is a direct link to independent fish farmers along the coast of Norway. In addition, Skaar is a major shareholder in Svanøy Havbruk and supplier of its fjord trout. Skaar has a long and traditional history in the seafood business- dating back to 1915, when Jon Skaar senior founded Skaar & Co in Maloy. What started as a fish trade in Maloy eventually grew to become one of the largest exporters of Norwegian salmon and trout. Today, Skaar Norway is headquartered in Floro.
Skaar International GmbH is located in Hamburg and Rostock in Germany and sells a wide range of fish and fish products, pelagic fish, white fish and farmed fish.
Svanøy Havbruk (SH) has production of broodstock, roe, smolt and fingerlings of rainbow trout at Svanøy in Flora municipality. SH has 2 aquaculture licenses for broodstock and one for fingerlings, as well as a license in joint operations. Skaar Norway also has in cooperation with Svanøy Havbruk a research and development license for optimization of trout farming, combined with roe production for consumption. Through test production in 2015 and full scale production in 2016 has Skaar exported trout roe for consumption to the Japanese market.
With its production capacity of 4-5,000 tonnes per year, Svanøy Havbruk has control over the entire value chain of production, from broodstock to roe, smolt and to fully grown fish delivered to the customer.
